International Stuttering Day and Establishes Speech Pathology Research Unit

His Excellency the President of King Khalid University, Prof.  Faleh bin Rajaa Al-Solami, issued an administrative decision to establish a "Speech Pathology Unit", which is to follow the Deanship of Scientific Research at the university.

 

The establishment of the unit comes to achieve a number of goals,  most prominent of which is the study of speech pathology in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia  and in  Asir region in particular,  while  strengthening all aspects of research  related to the fields professional and medical work.

 

On activating World Stuttering Day, which falls on October 22, The Dean of the College of Applied Medical Sciences in Abha, Dr. Majid Al Fae’, explained that the most prominent programs to activate  International Day of Stuttering were the launch of two independent programs that grant a bachelor’s degree in speech pathology and audiology at the College of Applied Medical Sciences in Abha. The programs fall under the Medical Rehabilitation Department, as the first Saudi university to initiate  two separate  programs, in addition to establishing  of specialized l laboratories equipped with all modern equipment and advanced technologies.

 

Al Fae’ pointed, that the program will include qualified cadres specialized in the field, and will invest in sending scholarship students overseas to  qualify them in the filed. He added that the first meeting  for speech disorders  was held in order to activate the World Stuttering Day 2021, and  to  implement  and promote  seminars and scientific sessions to  raising awareness of this disorder.
